Although the model's name suggests otherwise, the Air Jordan 1 Mid is actually one of the later models released via the Air Jordan series. In fact, the Air Jordan 1 Mid first came out at the beginning of the new millennium, while its 'siblings', Low and High, originate from the 1980s.
Design-wise, it's therefore a middle ground between the low and high variants. The Jordan 1 Mid thus goes up over the ankle, but not quite to the same extent as the high variant.
In fact, the Mid-cut itself was Michael Jordan's favorite variant. It was thus developed on later models in the series, at his recommendation back in the late 1980s.
